Description
Body Armor for Local Law Enforcement (BARM) is a state-funded reimbursement grant to non-state agencies for the sole purpose of easing the financial burden of purchasing bullet-resistant body armor for sworn law enforcement officers. The program reimburses non state agencies 50% of the cost of the body armor vest purchased. In 1995, legislation established the Protective Body Armor Fund. In 2006,House Bill 325transferred the administration of this program from the Maryland State Police to the Governor's Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services. Program funds are available to local law enforcement agencies of any county, incorporated city or town, including Baltimore City. State agencies are not eligible for this funding.
