Description
The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is developing the Alaska Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) 2055 and invites the public to participate in a series of online focus group meetings. These meetings will gather input on specific transportation topics to help shape the statewide Transportation Assessment, goals, policies, and long-range strategies. A short survey will be available for each focus group topic. Focus group surveys will also be available online during the public comment period. Surveys and the Draft Transportation Assessment can be accessed at: publicinput.com/alaskalrtp2055 All Focus Group meetings are open to the public and will be held online. Each meeting will be 60 minutes long and facilitated by the project team. Meetings will include a brief overview of the LRTP and the topic area, followed by guided discussion and opportunities for public comment. Participants may join one or multiple meetings. The Draft LRTP Transportation Assessment (Existing Conditions Memo) will be available for public review and comment from Monday, February 9, 2026, through Sunday, March 8, 2026. Focus Group Scope of Discussion Date Time Rail Advise on the evolving role of Alaska’s rail system in supporting freight, economic development, multimodal connectivity, tourism, and emerging resource markets within the statewide transportation network. 2/17/2026 11:00am - 12:00pm Rural Airports & Floatplane Docks Identify system-level needs to ensure rural airports and floatplane docks continue to provide safe, reliable, and affordable year-round access to essential services, goods, and emergency response for Alaska’s roadless communities. 2/17/2026 2:00pm - 3:00pm Active Transportation Engage on the integration of walking, biking, rolling, and trail-based travel into Alaska’s LRTP to support safe access, health, tourism, quality of life, and Alaska’s identity as an outdoor state for urban, rural, and remote communities. 2/18/2026 11:00am - 12:00pm Transit Guide the role of transit in Alaska’s LRTP by identifying strategies that improve access, equity, mobility, and connectivity for urban and remote communities through flexible and innovative service models. 2/18/2026 2:00pm - 3:00pm Rural Ports & Barge Landings Assess long-term needs for rural ports, docks, and barge landings to ensure reliable and resilient freight, fuel, and community access while addressing local management challenges and climate-related risks. 2/19/2026 11:00am - 12:00pm Winter Roads & Trails Evaluate the role of winter roads, ice roads, and snow trails in providing seasonal access for communities, subsistence, freight, and fuel movement, and identify priorities to support these systems as integral parts of Alaska’s transportation network. 2/19/2026 2:00pm - 3:00pm Community Connectivity & Frontier Access Roads Provide strategic input on strengthening ground transportation connections that reduce isolation, support shared services, and improve quality of life for communities across Alaska’s vast and often remote landscapes. 2/20/2026 11:00am - 12:00pm International Airports Engage on the strategic role of international airports through Alaska’s LRTP in supporting global cargo leadership, passenger travel, and statewide economic competitiveness while linking global connectivity to local community needs. 2/20/2026 2:00pm - 3:00pm Public comment on the Draft Transportation Assessment and all focus group surveys closes on Sunday, March 8, 2026.
