Description
The Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner (IOSME) is soliciting proposals from qualified vendors to provide a high-resolution Computed Tomography (CT) Scanner. This technology will integrate with existing forensic workflows to enhance diagnostic accuracy in determining the cause and manner of death. Anticipated installation of CT Scanner – July 2027 Our objectives are: Determine cause and manner of death: To accurately identify the injuries and medical conditions that led to death, which may be difficult to see with conventional autopsy alone. Facilitate Human Identification: Utilize advanced imaging of dental records, orthopedic implants, and unique anatomical markers to establish or confirm decedent identity. Detect subtle or extensive injuries: To find subtle injuries like hairline fractures, soft tissue damage that might be missed during a traditional autopsy. Provide evidence for legal cases: Produce standardized, high-quality, and repeatable digital evidence suitable for expert testimony and admissible in judicial proceedings. Optimize Procedural Efficiency: Use precise imaging to guide targeted dissections, potentially reducing the necessity for extensive invasive procedures while maintaining comprehensive investigative standards
