Subject to AS 38.05.850, the Northern Regional Land Office has received an application for the following:APPLICANT: Jacob FloraPROJECT NAME: LAS 35690GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION:The Pogo Mine Road is located in the Shaw Creek drainage. Pogo Road begins at the end of the Shaw Creek Road, approximately at 64.2832 N and 146.1287 W, and is accessed via the Richardson Highway near milepost 286.5. The requested use of the road would end at the Northeast Corner of Section 14 in Township 7 South located 22 miles down the Pogo Access Road at approximately 64.4014 N and 145.4923 W.LEGAL DESCRIPTION:Fairbanks Meridian, Township 7 South, Range 8 East, Sections 3, 4, 10Fairbanks Meridian, Township 7 South, Range 10 East, Sections 2, 3, 4Fairbanks Meridian, Township 6 South, Range 11 East, Sections 14, 15, 22REQUESTED ACTIVITY:The Division of Mining, Land, and Water (DMLW) received a Land Use Permit (LUP) application from Jacob Flora for the travel on Pogo Mine Road to analyze sand deposits within the Shaw Creek Valley. Flora would be analyzing the particle size distribution and composition to study the periglacial eolian sand dunes formed during the Pleistocene period in the Tanana Valley. The applicant would collect up to three 5-gallon buckets of sand per site with a shovel. The sand collection would be completed in Fall 2025 or Summer 2026. The sites would be accessed via personal vehicle on the Pogo Mine Road and on foot off the road. No equipment would be left on site.REQUESTED TERM: 1 yearNEW DEADLINE FOR COMMENTS: The public notice period has been extended until October 8, 2025The public is invited to comment on this activity. The purpose of this notice is to gather input before a decision is made on this activity. To ensure consideration, written comments must be received by the Division of Mining, Land and Water at 3700 Airport Way, Fairbanks, AK 99709 on or before 5:00 p.m. on the date noted above.
