SHISHMAREF SANITATION ROAD EROSION CONTROL - EASTNFHWY01096Notice of Intent and Public CommentShishmaref, AlaskaAlaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) is soliciting comments on the proposed Shishmaref Sanitation Road Erosion Control project. The purpose of the proposed project is to protect the existing sanitation access road from future threat of coastal erosion. The proposed project is intended to provide for continued use of the existing surfaces and to repair and reinforce surfaces that have been eroded due to seasonal storm events.DOT&PF is proposing to repair and reinforce the eastern section of the Shishmaref Sanitation Road that is in danger of erosion as a result of seasonal storms. The proposed project will: Rehabilitate existing road surfaces and embankments, Replace damaged geotextile fabrics, Construct an armor rock revetment connecting the revetment constructed as part of the Shishmaref Sanitation Road Erosion Control project (Phase 1) with rock revetment constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Repair existing revetment structures adjacent to Shishmaref Sanitation Road. Proposed work will result in encroachments into the base (100 year) Chukchi Sea floodplain (Flood Map 0200840014B) and no net changes to the base flood elevation are anticipated. No longitudinal or significant encroachments are anticipated.We are currently working on the preliminary design, engineering and environmental reviews and want to ensure all possible factors are considered.
