Forensic Medical Claims Negotiations

Pursuant to Ind. Code § 5-2-6.1-39 and Ind. Code § 16-21-8-6, a hospital is required to provide a forensic medical exam to an alleged sex crime victim free of charge. As such, pursuant to Ind. Code § 5-2-6.1 and Ind. Code § 16-21-8, the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute is charged with reimbursing medical service providers for certain costs associated with providing forensic medical exams to victims of sexual assault. These costs include (but are not limited to) the following: forensic medical exams, mental health counseling, certain diagnostic testing, initial pregnancy and follow-up pregnancy testing, certain laboratory testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), alcohol, and/or drugs, suturing and care of wounds, and other limited outpatient services. All approved costs are paid directly to the hospitals provided that all state and federal laws and regulations are met. The selected vendor will provide claims processing services for these claims.
